Pressure Tanks

The Buffer Between Your Pump and Your Plumbing

On a private well, the pressure tank holds water under pressure so your pump does not run for every trickle of use. Inside modern tanks, a bladder or diaphragm separates air from water; when it fails or the tank is undersized, the pump short-cycles — starting and stopping far too often — which wears out the motor, heat-shrinks wire connections, and ruins pressure switches.

Klutz Well Drilling installs and replaces pressure tanks for homes and properties across North Manchester and surrounding Indiana communities. We treat the tank as part of a system: pump output, pressure switch settings, and piping size all have to agree.

Signs Your Tank May Need Attention

  • The pressure gauge bounces wildly or water “spits” at the tap when the pump kicks on
  • You hear the pump or pressure switch cycling every few seconds with a faucet barely open
  • The tank feels waterlogged, sounds dull when tapped, or has visible corrosion or wet spots
  • You are replacing the pump and the old tank is decades old or an unknown size
  • You are adding bathrooms, irrigation, or a large soaker demand and pressure cannot keep up

Why the Right Tank Matters

Steadier Pressure at the Tap

A healthy tank smooths out the difference between pump-on and pump-off pressure so showers and sprinklers feel less like a roller coaster.

Less Wear on Your Pump

The tank stores pressurized water so the pump does not start for every glass of water. Fewer starts per day means longer motor and control life.

Sized for Your Home

Tank volume should match pump output, cut-in/cut-out settings, and how your household uses water. We size replacements so the system is not fighting itself.

Install Done Right

Isolation valves, proper tee and drain orientation, and correct air precharge matter as much as the tank label. We set up serviceable plumbing, not just a swap.

How We Handle It

01

Check Symptoms and Equipment

We listen for rapid clicking at the switch, wide pressure swings, or a pump that never seems to rest — and note your current tank type, plumbing, and pressure settings.

02

Recommend Size and Type

Bladder and diaphragm tanks are standard today. We match capacity and drawdown to your pump and demand so you are not oversized (wasted money) or undersized (fried pump).

03

Install or Replace

We pipe the new tank with room to work, set precharge to your cut-in pressure, and confirm the pressure switch and controls still make sense with the new volume.

04

Verify Cycling

After startup we watch a few demand cycles to ensure cut-in and cut-out behave as expected — and explain what normal sounds and intervals look like for your setup.

Service Area

We serve North Manchester, Wabash, Warsaw, Huntington, Columbia City, Fort Wayne, and the surrounding Indiana communities.

Rest of the Pressure System

Tanks work with pressure controls and switches. If the pump itself is failing, see submersible pumps or booster and jet pumps. All well-related services are listed under well services.
